Strategic Planning & Organizational Development
As someone who’s experienced the exhilaration of staff feeling empowered and grounded by a clear strategic plan and strong processes - I’ve watched team members go from day to day doers to passionate pursuers of excellence. The strength of your organization doesn’t just lie in the incredible mission you have nor the people who make that mission possible - it’s also found in your guide and your systems. I’ve seen the other side - the chaos that results from unclear, outdated, or non-existent strategic plans and poor systems. I’ve experienced the agony as employees in a company I worked for constantly scrambled to find the road to success. One person built their dream in their day to day that looked similar and could fit in the mission, but then was told it wasn’t feasible. Yet another began a service approach that responded to the needs of their clients in front of them, then was reprimanded for focusing on things outside of their scope of work. And still another fulfilled the task they were given, but were admonished for the mismatch in outcomes. The problem wasn’t the employees in either one of these cases, it was clarity and direction.
Having seen both sides, Wura is on a mission to ensure that organizations feel grounded, catapulted into clarity of direction, and together on execution with strong systems in place. Wura offers nonprofit organizations the expertise and facilitation services needed to bring your team together, define your direction, and build the machinery to make it happen.
Conducted through a combination of 1:1 meetings, discovery activities, and facilitated dialogue, Wura will walk with you from the inception of your workplan through to the delivery of your public-facing strategic documents. Each strategic plan process is carefully crafted to meet your unique situation in your unique context to deliver a product that you, your partners, and your audience feel exceptionally proud of.

This is evaluated on a case by case basis but I can share some examples.
If an ED who’s looking for coaching only wants 5 hours of coaching because of an organization wide limit on professional development costs, I may waive the minimum to ensure you can get some support. That said, knowing that those 5 hours will only pay for 2-3 sessions with minimal prep, I will warn against the inability to complete thorough conversations since we’ll only be able to meet twice or three times.
Another example would be if an organization really only wants me to facilitate the strategic planning process, but they’ll take the material and create their own collateral behind it. In those circumstances, I may waive the minimum by 10-15 hours because I won’t have to design the content that the organization wants to put the material into. This will come with a cautionary tale of losing some quality however, because often times - as a visual person - our strategic planning process may be done in tandem with a visual representation that I’d ordinarily create or ask for some third-party support to create for us. So we’d lose that continuity having someone else visualize that collateral based on our material.
Bottom line, waiving minimums is done rarely, in select circumstances and I advise against it as much as possible. If we’re going to work on a project together, let’s do it holistically from the get go!

My services are tailored for nonprofit staff and leaders living in the State of Oregon.

All of my experience has been based in Oregon so I recommend Oregon. That said, learning new areas is possible so if you’re seeking services outside of Oregon, I may draw on your knowledge of the area much more than normal, but happy to talk about it!

My experience with nonprofits is deep and vast stretching over at least 20 years in various capacities. I know nonprofits very well and as much as I’d like to advise on corporate affairs, I’m still learning in that area. That said, if you’re with a corporation that you’d like to explore how nonprofit concepts can help your particular situation, let’s talk about it!
